Yes, Jared has a brother. It took us three weeks to figure out his name, and sorry, no, it's not Mahonri or Moriancumr.
Kiefer (no middle name yet - Hey, at least he has a first name!!!) Benson was born Saturday, October 20th, 2007 at 6:53am. He was 8 pounds 8 ounces and 21.5 inches long. He was born at home after a quick three hours. The whole family was present for the actual birth. Jared had already woken up and was in the other room with Chris. Avery woke up right when the baby was coming out, and so Jared and Chris came around the corner just in time. Chris said it was a "flying baby" as Margie, our midwife, handed him to me as everyone else was coming into the room. We did not know what we were having and so we all were excited to have another boy. Jared wanted a boy so we could go in a "zig-zag," you know, boy-girl-boy-girl.
He got the name Kiefer because we really love the show "24" and Kiefer Sutherland is my favorite actor. Oh wait, we don't have a TV and haven't watched 24 since season 2. Who is Kiefer Sutherland anyway? Kiefer is my (Jess's) grandmother's maiden name. Actually hers is Keefer, but a few generations earlier the germans who immigrated spelled it Kiefer. Chris, the returned german missionary, wants you to know that Kiefer means Jaw, Pine (like a tree), and is similar to cooper - a barrel-maker (Küffer). I had the name picked out before he was born, but needed to make sure it fit him. Chris is now insisting that he is the one who came up with the name (as a joke, he says).
Everyone seems to be "adjusting" well. Jared and Avery like being big brother and big sister to "Baby Brother" (his name for those first three weeks). They are very lovey and smothery. And helpful, especially with those diaper changes. They are so excited to get out a diaper and wipes and throw away the poopy one for me. Kiefer is a great baby. He's really easy-going and likes to sleep. And he's cute. We like him.

Jessica failed to mention that she kept trying to sell me on Mitchell, Kiefer wasn't really pushed until the 3rd week. She will probably still try to name our next boy Mitchell. Nothing major against Mitchell of course, but the only time I ever heard the name growing up was when Chad (my cousin, who has the middle name of Mitchell) was in enough trouble to warrent all three names. I can still hear clearly in my mind Aunt Betty's chilling "CHAD MITCHELL SOLLIS!"
